Sharks and Fish

poker theorists and analytical players just love to compare other players to different kinds of animals. Whether it is a shark, a donkey, a fish, an eagle, or any of the other many monikers that have been detailed over the years, the zoo of poker denizens never seems to tire. Using those animals, then, is a common way of classifying poker en ligne players for their abilities or identities at the table. A shark is a player known for his high skill level and ability to make moves. A shark is usually a well above average player there only to take the money of his lesser opponents. The fish are what the shark feeds on. They likely don’t know much about the game, and are there to have fun in the same way they would playing slots or craps. They might have seen poker on TV and think they’d like to give it a try with little to no experience. A donkey is a stubborn and often fish-related poker player who either doesn’t know or doesn’t care that he is playing badly. He’ll put his money in with the worst of it over and over again, just because.

An eagle is the player who is there to play the game ‘right’ and ‘well,’ who sees himself as the upholder of the game, both in his own play, and in the idea that good play will be rewarded with the money.
